What are Outs and Odds? So what is “out” in a poker game? Out is a card that the poker player needs in order to complete his hand. If, for example, the player is holding As-Ks and the flop is coming 26-7s-Td, that means that the player's got a card for each color. Which means each coming pick will give you a color. In a deck of cards there are 13 picks, and now after a quick calculation we know that there are 2 picks in your hand, 2 on the board, that is 4. Minus 13 inside the card deck – leaves us with 9 picks. In that kind of situation it is right to say that the player's got 9 OUTS in that hand (for that color). Or in another words: there are 9 cards in the deck, that if they will be on the poker table – they will give you a certain color. But what are the odds for the poker player to pick that color? If a deck of cards has 52 cards in it and the player have seen 5 of them (2 in his hand and 3 in the flop) that leaves him with 47 cards unseen. After he found out that there are 9 picks in the cards deck that will help him complete a color – he needs to know what are the odds to pick a certain pick. The odds are 38:9. After reducing the numbers and now it is 4.2:1 to pick the color. In percents it is 25% to pick the color. (25% of the situations in the game might have give the poker player his hand).
