Former WSOP Placer Wanted By Feds
Former World Series of Poker finalist Randy Zandstra has been issued an arrest warrant Sept. 24 by a New York Federal Judge for conning casinos across the nation.
Zandra has been described as "brilliant but vicious", with crimes ranging from shooting his ex-wife's boyfriend from pulling off a bogus investment scheme involving vending machines that didn't exist. Zandstra has also been known to use as many as 16 aliases to hide from the law.
Two months ago, Zandstra went missing after jumping bail in the middle of a fraud trial in Union County, N.J. A $5,000 dollar reward was posted for his recapture in July. His disappearance means that he lists violating federal parole under his belt.
Zandstra, in his years of scamming, has allegedly amassed hundreds of thousands of dollars. Federal officials say however, that Zandstra cannot resist the allure of high-stakes poker and is believed to be hiding out in either New York or Atlantic City.
"He's a very smart guy," said one federal deputy. "He's got a bad temper, and he's constantly pulling some kind of scam."
Zandstra finished at sixth place at the World Series of Poker in 1996. Sources said that he "feels morally superior to the casinos", and has been banned in most gambling establishments in Atlantic City and Las Vegas.
